Depression, also called a major depressive disorder, is actually a lot more than just feeling sad from time to time. It is a mental health condition and mood disorder, believed to be the result of biological and environmental factors.
A diagnosis of the major depressive disorder requires you to experience at least five depression symptoms every day for a period of at least two weeks. These symptoms most frequently include loss of interest in hobbies, feelings of worthlessness or guilt, and fatigue, among others.
How long does depression last?
The length of depression depends on several factors, most of all being whether you receive proper treatment. It can last anywhere from two weeks to years at a time. What’s more, depression is not necessarily a consistent condition, but rather one made up of episodes with symptoms and then periods of remission. Depressive episodes can vary in length, and can also vary in terms of how many episodes a person will go through. Some people may only have one depressive episode, even, although most people with depression will suffer from multiple episodes throughout their lifetime.
